Patient Care
|
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations using specialized tools
like slit lamps, retinoscopes, and ophthalmoscopes.
- Diagnose conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic
retinopathy, macular degeneration, and refractive errors.
- Identify systemic diseases (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) that
manifest through ocular symptoms.

Medical Management
|
- Prescribe and manage medications, including eye drops, oral
medications, and injectable treatments.
- Monitor chronic eye conditions and adjust treatment plans as
needed.
- Provide non-surgical treatments such as laser therapy for glaucoma
or diabetic retinopathy.

Surgical Duties
|
- Evaluate and prepare
patients for surgical interventions, including LASIK, cataract surgery, and
retinal surgery.
- Explain surgical
procedures, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes to patients and families.
- Carry
out surgical interventions, including:
- Cataract
extraction with intraocular lens implantation.
- Retinal
detachment repair.
- Corneal
transplants.
- Glaucoma
surgery.
- Utilize
advanced surgical technologies like phacoemulsification and laser systems.
- Monitor
recovery and address complications or follow-up treatments.

Documentation and Reporting
|
- Maintain accurate patient records in compliance with the Ministry
of Health (MOH) regulations and institutional policies.
- Provide detailed reports for referral cases or insurance purposes.

Collaboration
|
- Collaborate with other medical
specialists (e.g., endocrinologists, neurologists) for systemic diseases
affecting vision.
- Work closely with optometrists,
orthoptists, and other eye care professionals for comprehensive patient care.
- Refer patients to subspecialists
when advanced or highly specialized care is needed.

Community and Public Health
|
- Participate in public health
initiatives, such as vision screening programs in schools or rural areas.
- Advocate for the prevention of
blindness through awareness campaigns.
|
Professional Development
|
- Stay updated on the latest
technologies, surgical techniques, and treatments in ophthalmology.
- Attend conferences and workshops
to maintain expertise and meet the SCFHS requirements for continuous
professional development.
|
Administrative Duties
|
- Maintain accurate medical records,
including patient histories, diagnoses, treatments, and surgical outcomes.
- Adhere to the ethical guidelines
and legal requirements set by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and SCFHS.
- Contribute to quality improvement
initiatives in the healthcare institution.
