Job Overview

he Consultant Gastroenterologist will deliver comprehensive gastroenterology services at St Mary’s Hospital. Responsibilities include performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies, managing gastroenterology inpatients and outpatients, and participating in multidisciplinary teams. The consultant will play a vital role in the development of the gastroenterology service, engaging in teaching, audit, and research.

Main Duties:

Clinical Responsibilities:

Provide a comprehensive in-patient and out-patient gastroenterology service.

Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

Participate in the 1 in 11 consultant general medical emergency on-call rota.

Oversee the care of gastroenterology inpatients on Whippingham Ward.

Research & Audit

Engage in research relevant to the gastroenterology service.

Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.

Teaching And Research:

Contribute to the education of junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals.

Participate in the teaching of undergraduates, postgraduates, and nurses.

Management:

Provide clinical leadership and management within the gastroenterology service.

Participate in departmental and directorate meetings to support service development.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Full GMC registration with a license to practice.

MRCP or equivalent.

Experience in postgraduate teaching and audit participation.

A special interest in hepatology or gastroenterology that complements existing services.

Skills:

Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Ability to manage a range of gastroenterology conditions, both in outpatient and inpatient settings.

Commitment to clinical governance and service improvement.
