Job Summary

As a Consultant Respiratory Physician at The James Cook University Hospital, you will be a key member of a dedicated team providing comprehensive respiratory care. The applicant will provide specialist respiratory input for acute respiratory admissions to ensure the highest quality care and optimum effectiveness. The applicant will also provide care to general medical patients and participate in the general medical on-call. They will support the development of sub-specialist services
according to their expertise

Your role will involve diagnosing and treating a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, lung cancer, and interstitial lung diseases. You will lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols, and engage in both inpatient and outpatient care.

Job Overview

General Duties:

Provision with Consultant colleagues, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the proper functioning of the department.
Out-of-hours responsibilities, including participation in consultant medical on-call Rota where applicable
Participation of the respiratory 7-day working Rota.
Cover for colleagues' annual leave and other authorised absences.
Any responsibility which relates to a special interest.
Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
Responsibilities for conducting teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally.
Participating in medical audit, the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes and in CPD.
Involvement in research.
Managerial, including budgetary, responsibilities where appropriate.
A willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
The post holder must always conduct his/her duties with due regard to the Trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
