Support surgeons in the operating room during a variety of surgical procedures:
As an OTA, you'll assist surgeons by providing the necessary instruments and supplies during operations. You’ll anticipate the surgeon's needs, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow throughout the procedure.
Prepare, maintain, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment:
You’ll be responsible for preparing and sterilizing all surgical instruments before surgery to ensure they meet health and safety standards. You’ll also maintain the condition of equipment throughout the procedure, ensuring everything is sterile and ready for use.
Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols:
Adhering to strict health and safety standards is a key part of your role. This includes following infection control procedures, ensuring that all surgical tools and environments are sterile, and helping to maintain a safe operating room environment.
Provide assistance with patient care during surgical operations:
While OTAs focus on assisting with the surgery itself, they also support patient care by helping position patients on the operating table, ensuring they are comfortable, and monitoring their condition during the procedure.
