The Consultant Medical Oncologist will be responsible for providing specialized oncology care, focusing on patients with GI and HPB cancers. This role includes attending MDT meetings, managing patient referrals, and planning and supervising chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. The consultant will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including advanced practitioners, nurse prescribers, and other oncology consultants. The role involves clinical duties across two hospitals and participation in clinical trials, teaching, and professional development activities.
Main Duties
Clinical Responsibilities:
Provide specialist oncology care for patients with Upper and Lower GI cancers, including HPB cancers.
Attend and actively participate in MDT meetings at both UHS and SDH.
Plan and supervise chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments.
Conduct on-treatment review clinics and supervise inpatient care.
Provide oncology input to GI services and acute oncology services at SDH.
Teaching and Supervision:
Actively participate in teaching and training junior medical and nursing staff.
Provide clinical supervision to junior doctors and involvement in educational supervision.
Research and Development:
Participate in clinical trials and research, with opportunities to lead or contribute to ongoing studies.
Engage in peer review meetings and professional development activities.
Management and Governance:
Take on leadership roles within the subspecialty and department.
Participate in management duties, including service development and clinical governance.
Ensure adherence to hospital policies and standards of care.
