Job Summary

NHS University Hospital Torbay is seeking an experienced and compassionate Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive care in both obstetrics and gynaecology, offering expertise in managing a wide range of conditions, from routine antenatal care to complex gynaecological surgeries. This role involves leading multidisciplinary teams, contributing to the development of innovative clinical practices, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. The consultant will also have opportunities to engage in teaching, training, and research activities within the department.

Job Overview

The successful applicant will concentrate on the delivery of obstetric care. The oncall rota is for both obstetrics & gynaecology. We welcome applicants with additional obstetric skills such as ultrasound as part of high-risk antenatal care. Alternatively, gynaecological experience that compliments the department would be considered. There is opportunity within the job plan for a weekly or fortnightly gynaecology clinic to support gynaecology operating in the form of one day surgery list a month and one Main theatre list a month.

Patient safety, dignity and care are the highest priority and at the centre of all that we do.

To provide high quality consultant delivered care to patients including clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care are provided to all patients attending the hospital.
To be proactive in ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment, and clinical decision-making, whilst ensuring our standard to deliver safe quality and performance are delivered and sustained.
To provide teaching and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level and supervised and train the juniors and specialty doctors.
To be proactive the in the department’s clinical governance agenda and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement, thereby abiding by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the Trust.
To liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside the department to address any issues arising that may affect the services.
To participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
To communicate with local GPs To manage a team of responsibilities.

Full GMC Registration (with licence to practice).

CCT Specialist Registration or will obtain within 6 months of interview date.

CESR.

Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), IELTS or graduate of a UK Medical School

Full GMC registration with licence to practice

MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification

Relevant CCT or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of Advisory Appointments Committee)

Entry onto GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee

Distinctions, scholarships, prizes. Other degrees, e.g. BSc, MSc, MD. At least three years in Higher Training in relevant specialty.

Clinical Experience

Advanced labour ward practice ATSM or equivalent experience

Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems.

Suitable ATSMs or equivalent experience
