The Department of Infection Sciences in North Cumbria Hospitals is looking for an enthusiastic new consultant colleague to join us on our journey to provide high quality Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ID) Services for the future in an organisation committed to clinical leadership and medical education.
This is an exciting new post created by reconfiguration of a vacant Consultant Medical Microbiologist position due to relocation of the previous post holder.
This post is full-time (10 PAs). It is anticipated that the post holder will have the drive to develop a local Infectious Diseases service and further areas of interest to complement the existing team of Consultant Microbiologists at NCIC. There is also an opportunity for an honorary title to deliver one session of teaching at the new Pears Cumbria School of Medicine.

Job Overview

The Trust is looking for an enthusiastic colleague who is on the specialist register for both Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases to deliver Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ID) services as part of the existing Consultant Microbiologist team and a newly created Infectious Diseases service.

A new ID service is being created to complement the existing microbiology consultant team. The ID service will initially consist of a consultant in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (this post) who will maintain close relationships with the Trust’s microbiology and Sexual Health teams and forge links with the regional Infectious Diseases centre based at Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust will work with the successful candidate to shape the plan upon appointment, review it after three months, and then annually to ensure a perfect fit. The Trust is open to exploring portfolio roles with opportunities in academic posts, leadership, and medical education. Additionally, the Trust will provide the essential resources to support the successful candidate in their duties.

The full-time working week will consist of 10 programmed activities (PAs), separated into:

7.5 Direct Clinical Care PAs
1.0 Direct Clinical Care or Teaching
1.5 Supporting Professional Activities
