The job is offered as a
full-time post on a 10 PA basis but applications will be considered from those
wishing to work less than full-time. If full-time up to 2 EPAs may be available
to undertake additional clinical sessions or management activity.
The precise details of the job plan will
be dependent on the successful candidate’s subspecialty training and
interests. Additional Non DCC up to 2 PA’s in total inclusive of 1 core
SPA (supporting professional activities) plus one additional Non DCC PA can be
negotiated between the successful candidate and management depending on the
time required to support professional activities and the needs of the service.
The Board has a
well-established, bespoke Medical Education and Training Centre with simulation
facilities and is developing a facility for Human Factors training. We have a
strong commitment to Patient Safety and Quality Improvement with an increasing
number of consultants who are trained Patient Safety Fellows. We are also
committed to expanding our Research
& Development activity in collaboration with regional/national centres. Additional SPA time may be
available (up to a maximum of 12 PAs in total) to support activity in these
areas. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any
of these areas and wishing
to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the
identified Lead contact and Service Medical Manager (Associate Medical Director
or Divisional Medical Director).
The duties of the
post-holder will be agreed based on the prior training and interests of the
post-holder. These may include:
There is ongoing discussion of the model
for delivery of Infection services. For appointees with joint ID/Microbiology
CCTs, it is planned to have a rotational job plan between ID and Microbiology
and indicative timetables for each are given below. These are subject to
negotiation with the Clinical Director / Associate Medical Director. The core
10 PA working week will be based on 9 PAs of Direct Clinical Care (DCC) duties
and 1 PA of SPA time for a full-time post-holder. There will be 1PA for out of
hours Infection rotas/activity. If the successful candidate holds a CCT in
ID/General Medicine the job plan will include 2PAs for out of hours rotas (one
each for Infection and for General Medicine on calls). Further clinical EPAs /
SPAs may be agreed on discussion with the Clinical Lead/Clinical Director.
