Job Summary
The University Hospital of Wales is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Consultant in Gastroenterology to join their dynamic team. Job Overview
General Duties
Conduct regular outpatient clinics to diagnose and manage a wide range of gastrointestinal (GI) disorders.
Provide care for inpatients with complex GI conditions, including overseeing the management of acute cases.
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, such as colonoscopies, upper GI endoscopies, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings to discuss patient cases and develop comprehensive treatment plans.
Participate in on-call rotas, providing emergency care for GI emergencies and supporting other healthcare professionals in managing acute GI conditions.
Contribute to the development and improvement of gastroenterology services within the trust, including pathway development and protocol implementation.
Take on leadership roles within the department, such as leading a clinical team or managing specific service areas.
Engage in activities to improve patient safety and quality of care, including clinical audits and governance meetings.
Provide education and training to medical students, junior doctors, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
Supervise and mentor junior doctors and trainees, offering guidance and support in their professional development.
Engage in ongoing learning and development to stay up-to-date with advancements in gastroenterology.
Participate in or lead clinical research projects to advance the understanding and treatment of GI diseases.
Publish research findings in medical journals and present at national and international conferences.
Collaborate with other researchers and institutions to contribute to multicenter studies and research networks.
On Calls
The post holder will rotate with the other Consultants to undertake Consultant of the
week on a current 1: 12 rota frequency.
