- FRCOphth or MRCS or FRCS.
- Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise.

- Completion of a fellowship or other qualification in an ophthalmic sub-specialty or special interest.

- Clinical training and experience in Ophthalmology broadly equivalent to that required to gain UK CCST in Ophthalmology.
- Able to work independently at a senior level, taking responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Consultant experience in a Healthcare system, working independently for a minimum of two years.
- Experience of senior/consultant level on call in an acute general hospital Ophthalmology Department sufficient to safely function upon the Consultant on call rota

- Ability to take part and at times, lead a clinical team.
- Clinical supervision experience/skills
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems.
